Artist Biography

Donna Dennis is interested in the poetics of space. The artist’s work can perhaps best be understood as sculptural architecture framed by a smaller, more intimate human scale than that used by the urban planner. Her carefully detailed, stage-like forms find their direction from early childhood memories. And, as a result, are mysteriously emotive experiences of place.

In the three-dimensional lithograph Night Roof, the artist shows us the view from above a city rooftop. Planes intersect in dramatic angles and an eerie cast of light permeates the entire scene. The rooftop is momentarily empty, but will fill with sound and air and eventually transform into a new place in morning light.
