Artist Biography

In Sandra Kaplan’s paintings and prints natural and botanic forms appear in both sharp and soft focus, following rules of intense light and shadow. Over this figurative scene a study of color and pattern emerges: boundaries bleed into one another and the simple variation of one mark creates an entire plant. Here natural form serves as a guide for the artist’s abstract interpretation of mark and as a meditation on the composition of our natural world.

Sandra Kaplan earned a BFA from Pratt Institute in New York City in 1965.

Sandra Kaplan has exhibited nationally and internationally, most recently in the United States Embassy in Bogota, Columbia, and has been recognized in the New York Times, Art in America and other publications.
