Artist Biography

“Jim Ringley is a painter of visual poems…(he) puts one image next to another, stands back and considers the juxtaposition…his image choices generate subtle, often complex, and usually open-ended visual occasions for serious reflection.”

Using collage and nostalgic imagery, Ringley creates spaces and places previously unknown to the viewer often incorporating different styles within the same picture. Ringley’s paintings and prints have a kinesthetic sense of metaphor as we move through strange and exciting landscapes, observing familiar objects.

Popular Science is Ringley’s first print at Shark’s Ink. It is a seven color lithograph with chine collé that juxtaposes fine drawing and a flat, retro image, as tops spin above the disparate spaces of the print.
