Artist Biography

Fascinated by tattoos since childhood, Don Ed Hardy is a celebrated tattoo artist and recognized scholar of tattoo history and lore. Bringing his graphic skill to the mediums of painting, drawing, and printmaking, the artist has also developed his work in these traditional fine arts.

Don Ed Hardy began a collaboration with Master Printer Bud Shark in 1995 producing a portfolio of lithographs titled Tattoo Royale. The artist’s prints often make reference to the mythical American Wild West, surf culture, and Eastern religion. And his repertoire of tattoo subjects can be found throughout: panthers, dragons, devils, sharks, royal crowns, hearts, waves, butterflies, and skeletons are among his catalogue of imagery. Graphically stunning, Hardy utilizes print mediums to his full advantage.
