Artist Biography
Terry Maker makes three-dimensional works that get to the “guts” of the materials used, such as discarded shoes, vinyl records, candy dust and shredded documents. They have been deconstructed and then reconstructed, echoing her own inner journey as an artist. An intentional, though often surprising, interplay of chaos and order is evident in the finished artwork.
She says, “I explore the process of art making while addressing themes relating to human desire and decay, death and resurrection, mundane and sacred and mark-making–both literal and figurative. The revealed surfaces present the viewer with a visual puzzle, made even stranger by its unique visual vocabulary, that opens the possibility of new connections, and new perspectives.”
